In this past year OTT platform has given us many good web series like Scam 1992, Family man, Asur and many more. In March 2020, Asur: welcome to the dark side premiered on Voot. Asur combines the genres of mythological fiction and thriller. ASUR is a unique crime thriller which shows forensic scientists trying to understand and catch a killer having religious ties who strongly belives in what he is doing and has evil agenda.

PLOT:

Dhananjay Rajput played by Arshad Warsi is trying solve a murder case by catching a mysterious killer who is also clever and killing people just to prove that evil always wins. To help him in this case Nikhil Nair (Barun Sobti), a forensic expert has returned to India. Things get difficult when  killer manages to kill a person who is close to Dhananjay and now he gets arrested under suspicion. Now Nikhil has to solve this case before things get even worse.   While the solving different murders Nikhil finds common patterns and after investigating these murders they found that Dhananjay somehow has connection with the killer.

While searching for this connection they get to know about the main killer’s personality and his beliefs. Dhananjay is also trying to put all the peices together during his time in jail. The serial killer’s story is also shown in an interesting manner. Killer is a born psychopath who always has an inclination towards violence.Dhananjay met this killer when the killer was underage. But his thoughts and intentions were evil even at young age. Dhananjay put this killer behind bars in the past for something very cruel and heartless deed. Now this killer is trying to prove the world that no matter what evil always wins.

Killer also kidnaps Nikhil and put him into difficult situations so that he has to choose between his family and other people’s life. The killer also plays different mind games with Dhananjay and Nikhil. He does so with the help of his followers from the cult that he started. His followers also belives in what he is doing and supporting him in his every move. The best thing about the series is that they show killer’s present identity in the final episode but nobody in the forensic team has any idea about the real mastermind killer’s identity.

Conclusion:

If you want to see a thriller series with a touch of Hindu Mythology then you should definitely watch Asur. It will keep you on the edge till the very last episode of the series.
